After listening to ThreeDay for the 100th time, with every listen I try and put myself in the same space as Traxx. This album isn’t just a classic project, it’s a project that you can apply to your daily life. I’m not looking at this project as someone that had the privilege to listen before the release date, I am coming from a fans perspective.
This album is a breath of fresh air for Hip-Hop. You can zone out and be taken to another level physically, spiritually and mentally. This project is so deep. In every single track you can hear the pain, struggle and frustration that Traxx has experienced. It’s almost as if you are living his life. Every bar makes sense, there is nothing out of place. Every strike of a snare, hit of an 808 and adlib is strategically placed. How many albums can you name in the current state of Hip-Hop can you say is without flaws? In my opinion, not many. What a lot of people don’t know is that Traxx is running a record label, producing beats for some of the music industries so-called hottest emcees, engineering for other artists in addition to a number of other titles.
Screwface World Music isn’t just a label, it’s a brand, a family, a way of life. As I’ve said many times, every single artist on this label is making music for the love of music and not for the accolades that come with it; however the accolades are an added bonus. I still don’t understand why we as fans of Hip-Hop, put blinders up and only listen to what’s on the radio? Everybody complains about the state of Hip-Hop, but they are not willing to step out of the box, because that would go against the grain. In addition to stepping outside of the box, the majority of major record label executives don’t have their ears to the street. They depend on someone else to tell them what’s hot. When in reality, what they think is hot, only turns out to be a trend. Today, it’s about getting a hit single, but what happens when Hip-Hop is tired of listening?
Traxx Trigga, SneakerBox Chock, Bueller Da Don, Shotti, Husk E Fresh and Nyce Daytona are extremely talented artists, but they are being drowned out by trends. In 20-30 years from now, how do you want to remember Hip-Hop? I want to be able to turn on my music player (whatever it may be at that time) and be proud of what my generation had put together. Many people will argue that they don’t want to go to the club to listen to lyrics, if that’s the case, instead of an artist combining sub-par lyrics with a nice beat, why not just release the beat so people can dance. I don’t know. It’s frustrating at times, but you can’t let it get to you. With every single album that is associated with the Screwface brand, you can listen from the first track to the last track without skipping. One day all the pieces will come together.
ThreeDay release date: 5.20.2014. Make sure you support the movement. “We don’t adhere to the standard, We create it.”
